History
Precept Ministries International

In 1969, Jack Arthur became the station manager for a Christian radio station. He and his wife Kay had just returned home to Chattanooga, Tennessee from the mission field due to an illness she had. Kay started a Bible study for teenagers in her living room and was asked to teach a Bible study with 250 women every week in Atlanta, Georgia. Kay wrote the first draft of her book, How To Study Your Bible. Out of that experience, Precept Upon Precept Inductive Bible courses were born. By 1970, the teenagers were meeting in a barn they had cleaned out and patched up themselves. Adults started coming too and it was obvious that an expanded ministry center was needed. Jack left his radio career and became President and leader of this flourishing new organization. Today, Precept Ministries International reaches around the world into over 100 countries.

Precept Bible Study at Sagemont Church

Precept Bible Study was introduced at Sagemont Church in the fall of 1988. Initially it was a Bible study for women and offered on a weekday morning only. Within a few years an evening class was added and led by a male instructor. More and more men and women began participating in Precept Bible study which also led to the addition of classes for Junior High and High School students. Over the years Precept Bible study at Sagemont Church has grown, enabling men, women, and teenagers to attend classes and study the Bible inductively on a day or evening that is convenient for them. We offer several classes each Spring, Summer, and Fall led by qualified Precept Leaders.

Precept Sagemont continues to grow. We are excited to offer Precept Family Night each Summer which includes a class for children. PreceptKids is a huge success and a wonderful way to introduce inductive Bible study to children. We've witnessed all types of people, no matter their age, benefit from inductive Bible study. Lives of individuals and families have permanently changed as a result of being consistently in God's Word.

God's Word is able to transform our minds as it helps us to understand Him and His character. A reward of Bible study is coming to know God in an intimate way. It's a beginning to understanding His lovingkindness that's shown to us in many ways and most significantly displayed in His Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
